Michael Moss (b. 1948)

Michael Moss was born in Preston and travelled extensively in Australia and New Zealand, where he held his first exhibition. He returned to the UK to study art in Preston and at Plymouth College of Art before moving to Cornwall where he currently lives and works.

Moss has established himself as a thoughtful artist, primarily known for his intimate water colours. His art takes its inspiration from the rugged beauty of the Cornwall and Devon landscapes, their people and animals. He is able to simultaneously capture the natural reality and picturesque moments in his focussed compositions which are made up of passages of soft, atmospheric backgrounds and sharply detailed foregrounds.

Moss mostly exhibits in the South West of England and has won various local prizes including the Western Morning News Open Art Competition (1984), Ecco-Goodhousekeeping Open Exhibition (1991), the Society of Artists from Cornwall competition (1996 and 1998), Sterts Open Competition (1997) and the Watercolour prize at Stuart House, Liskeard (2006).
