Anthony Morris NEAC (b. 1938)
Impressionist painter Anthony Morris was born in Oxford in 1938. Initially he studied at the city’s school of art before going to the Royal Academy Schools where he was taught by Peter Greenham.
In 1960 he had his first painting accepted for the RA summer exhibition and in 1968 he was invited to exhibit at the RA bicentennial exhibition. As befits his traditional training his work displays careful draftsmanship.
Morris paints from direct observation with light playing a crucial part in the finished works.
He largely uses oils, but also uses watercolours and pastels.
The subject matter is usually architectural cityscapes, especially in and around Oxford, landscapes and portraits.
Recognition came in 1971 with membership of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters followed by the New English Art Club in 1994.
Morris’s exhibits his work widely at home and abroad, and is held by many public collections including Oxford University.
