Lynn Golden (b. 1958)

Lynn Golden is an artist working primarily in pastel. She studied at St. Albans School of Art and was taught by Harman Sumray, Graham Boyd, Jeff Stultiens, Roger Leeworthy and Arnold Van Praag. She moved to Cornwall to paint in 1977 and has been picturing the Roseland peninsula ever since. She is a member of the Portscatho Society of Artists, situated at The New Gallery in Portscatho, an artist-run gallery comprising of both an art gallery and working studio above.

Golden paints landscapes, flowers and still-life compositions directly, in situ. Often over several sessions, her works rely on the encounter of light with colour and shapes to bring about interesting compositions that allow her to communicate her feelings and reactions to the light, air and movement with the subject. This usually results in chromatically dynamic, joyful pictures which celebrate the dramatic and commonplace with equal sensitivity.

Her mastery of her chosen medium has led to her acting as an expert advisor to Daler Rowley on the manufacture of pastels for artists. She has exhibited throughout the U.K., Europe and The Caribbean, winning a “Grand Prix” at a French Salon. She has taught residential and one day courses, and regularly travels to Europe and and the Caribbean, which particularly speaks to her love of vibrant colour brought to life by sun and water.
